Mother Nature's Plans

Updated: Nov 19, 2019

A friend of mine had a cool Instagram Post that relates well to Motorcycle Riding. The quote:

SOMETIMES WE NEED TO STEP BACK

AND LET LIFE SORT ITSELF OUT…

TO CONTROL WHAT WE CAN CONTROL

AND LET THE REST JUST BE

This was my view earlier this week...wet and wetter! My plan, unlike Mother Nature's plan, was to ride. But, like the earlier quote in this Blog, "Sometimes we need to step back and let life sort itself out...to control what we can control and let the rest just be". So, I did just that!

We have all listened to riders, young and not so young, talk about the relaxing qualities of a Motorcycle trip. Some have described these moments as, 'wind-therapy' (clever). With that I ask, what's the rush? Here I was so preoccupied with maintaining a schedule that I completely lost sight of the real objective of stepping back & experiencing that which is put in front of me (that control thing).

Riding for me is ZEN! An inner calmness...not a care in the world, not a worry in the world. And certainly not a means of getting somewhere faster than anyone else. Mother Nature is a cool cat. She has a way of showing up when you least expect it, as I believe solely to remind us that she is there, watching over us and guiding us with our decisions.

Yes, as a rider, rain can be a nuisance...until, until...until it stops! (PS It will stop). What the rain leaves behind are the colors of nature, the smells of nature (intoxicating if I may add), and as a result, adding a level of vibrancy that adds to the moment! Riding a Motorcycle is not the start of a rat-race to get somewhere as fast as you can along with the other rats. Motorcycle riding is a journey. A journey filled with wonders and surprises yet to be discovered. Ask yourself this...have you ever been delayed to later have an unplanned encounter that wouldn't have ever happened if you had left on time? For me, many times!

PS Even though this trip was delayed (about 4 hours) I can tell you that I wouldn't have traded it for the world. Let the unpredictable be your ally and let the rest just be :)
